After early prototypes showed flaws, Sukhoi completely redesigned the Su-27. The 1982 version introduced the curved wing-tips and refined tail fins that allowed it to perform the famous "Pugachev's Cobra." It was finally ready to challenge the F-15 Eagle on equal terms.
