Wide-body
747-100
Boeing · USA
The 747 was the world's first "wide-body" (twin-aisle) jet. Its massive size allowed airlines to lower ticket prices significantly, starting the era of mass tourism. Its iconic "hump" was designed to allow the nose to open for cargo loads.
Legacy Fact: It was so large that pilots had to train in a "truck-mounted" cockpit (Mothership) to get used to the height above the ground.
